This lovely lady is Aidan, isn't she purdy?? We grew up together and our oldest children are only a few days/weeks apart... We had to make this a quick mini shoot as it was pretty cold and windy, we also almost lost her in a mountain of snow as she stepped over a bridge on a snow mound that was NOT solid lol... pictures to come...

FINAL MOMENT SESSIONS

For a “Terminal Prognosis or a Devastating Diagnosis” (All age groups) of a family member, yourself or friends, even of a pet its hard to want to pick up your camera and capture that wonderful look of love, that single tear from a mother holding her child or just capturing that pure joy of any family together after such a devastating diagnosis.

Pictures are often the only tangible items that we have left when our precious gifts are taken away or altered in any way. We know how hard this time is for you and your family and know that memories are one of the most important things a person can keep forever.

We would be absolutely honoured to help you in making those memories come true. We offer Photography sessions absolutely free of charge at any time after a prognosis/diagnosis has been made. These sessions can be taken from your/their healthiest to your/their sickest and there is NO limitation on who has to be terminally ill to qualify as we accept any/all situations and any ages. This session does not have to be taken during your loved ones final moments but can be requested if that is what is needed.

MILITARY SESSIONS

For homecoming reunions we strive to capture the pure love and joy that you show the world when you see your loved one for the first time after their journey abroad. Its absolutely unbelievable capturing those beautiful faces that light up as a mother or father, sister or brother, son or daughter even aunt or uncle walks off the airplane after a long period of time of not being able to see or touch each other.

For deployments majority of individuals are overcome with their own emotion that the camera is often forgotten in their hand as they give kisses and hugs for the last time as they leave for their deployment.

If you are part of any branch of the Canadian Military then our goal is to capture those moments that can never be captured again for you. We are going to make a difference in many families lives that are dealing with deployments and homecoming reunions.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

FM Sessions

We are looking for families that have received a terminal prognosis or a devastating diagnosis. If you would like a session or if you know of ANYONE that you think sould benefit from a session please feel free to nominate them, you can fill out the application (click on application tab above)

We have the capability to come to you wherever you are, House, hospice, hospital room, anywhere you need us and we will be very gentle and accommodate all your needs in any way you need us to.

The do's and Don't of stealing photographs from your photographer!!!

This post is very very important for my clients to read, momtog says it right..

I get asked a lot by both photographers and clients what my policy is on letting my clients post their images to their blogs and facebook account. I personally love it when my clients post their family pictures on their blogs, facebook, etc. It shows me that they truly love their images! I encourage my clients to “steal” their pictures from my blog to use on the internet. Here are a few do’s and don’ts that you should think about when reposting your images:

1) DO ask your photographer what their specific policy is on taking pictures off of their blogs. Some photographers encourage it and some don’t allow it. If this is important to you this is something you should ask BEFORE you hire your photographer!

2) DO include your photographer’s name and website under the images (a link would be super nice!). That’s just the polite thing to do

3) DON’T crop out their logo. Unless you have paid for the digital negatives don’t alter the files in anyway. Most photographers use their blogs to advertise their work and do so as a courtesy to give their clients a sneak peek. If a client crops out the logo then how will other people know who took the picture?

4) DON’T edit the picture in any way. Taking the pictures is only half of a photographers job. The other half is editing. If you think you can do a better job or want to edit out some of your wrinkles or use selective coloring please don’t show and/or tell your photographer. That is super insulting. If you don’t like your photographers editing enough to want to edit it yourself than maybe you need to find another photographer next year.

5) DON’T try to print from the files on the blog. For me specifically I know that the files I upload to my blog are too small to be printed in a 4×6 size. It’s not cool to invest in a family session and then print the images off of the blog and not pay for prints. Make sure you know how much the prints cost before the session to avoid sticker shock. Same goes for scanning prints that you already bought. Not cool! Some of my family members are guilty of printing images off of my blog. It makes me cringe when I see them FRAMED in their homes with my logo still on there!

Yup the leaves have all fell down... so that means an end to my fall sessions... with the exception of 1 pregnancy halloween bonanza and some christmas cards... We are tired and beat but it was oh so worth it. We have met so many people and have such loyal clients (S.W.) I am talking about you.....lol

I have met so many cute children .. who knew there were so many cuties, the smiles and can you believe not 1 tantrum or child that did not want to be photographed?? Our change is a coming, new blog, new venture in photography,, thats still a tight lipped secret... but it will make you emotional, thats all I am gonna say!!!

Its beginning to look alot like...... FALL {Edmonton Family Photography}

This was a fun photoshoot with one busy little girl.. I always forget that fall is such a busy time so doing photo's at this location was a challenge because there were other photographers there... however we were patient and became creative while we were waiting. It was so worth it. Miss "A" is 4 years old and baby "J" Is 6 months old (uh oh.... I think he was 6 months old...lol) Mum and Dad are totally photogenic that I just wanted to keep snapping pics of them..

She was one brave cookie.... We could not get over how beautiful her eyes were... Dad, better look out for the teen years lol

All baby "J" wanted to do was eat the leaves... once mum and dad gave in he was all for plenty of pictures to be taken of him. I cannot believe how laid back he was, he had 1 second (literally) where he wanted to fuss and that was when mum put him on the grass without his blanket.

Eeek so cute, I just wanted to giggle when they were posing for this pic... mum and dad were doing fake sneezes for them to smile... after this picture Miss "A" was getting a yummy shirley temple for dinner for being so good

I really enjoyed meeting your family and photographing those beautiful kidlets you 2 have... Thanks again S.W for referring them to me among many other new clients,

This was a fun session that we did this weekend and thankfully the rain held off... give or take a couple of drops. Their son "L" was such a crazy funny kidlet, he was so excited that he was allowed to take some silly face pictures, he was really excited when I let him push the button on my camera when I was taking pics of his parents

This little princess is a gem "A" was at first having no part of the pictures till I said that they can throw leaves and mum and dad... the smile on her face was priceless. She was so patient and just plain wonderful it was really fun to photograph her.. I will be honest I took TONS of pics of her alone lol...

Alas this mum and dad were so in love and looked at each other like they knew each others thoughts, reminded me of a first date, they could not stop smiling... Now that was awesome to photograph.

The day was a bit chilly but you would never know it was because this wee one was having a blast... until he took a header and accidentally ate some dirt, then he wanted no part of the pictures... that is until we decided to take some pics of just mum and dad and Chris (my husband-second shooter) decided to carry him, then he was raring to go again...

Isnt she so cute??? She was a tough little cookie to catch in one spot to get some really cute pics, but with her mum and my quick feet, we were able to get some awesome pics AND were able to keep her form jumping off of cliffs, into water and leave with strangers.... But little miss E is cute none the less... she didn't even really notice the critters AKA mosquitos chewing on us all....

We went from a crank pot and a wee boy desperately wanting a nap

To then a cute facemaker 5 seconds later, unfortunately his nap crankiness won out and we are gonna do his session again this week..... AFTER his nap!!!

I have a funny story about this munchkin.. his mama sent me an updated picture of him and another sweet babe.. a little chunk of a babe at that.. so I was staring at the picture and felt really dumb... I said to my husband... ummmmmm is it bad if I have no clue which baby is baby L??? lol seriously he does not even resemble his newborn state lol.... Then when I went to do his session, his mama was standing there with a GORGEOUS new haircut... good thing they did not ask me to meet them in some crowded mall or something...

A bit about us and the reason to book a session today

First...you HAVE to take a look at our Photography! So if you haven't checked out the galleries/Facebook or our BLOG please go there NOW! Then come back to this section to find out about us, there is totally no reason to book a session today... really, I promise...

I = Tonikka, the name behind the photo's, the main photographer, the editor etc..

HE = Chris, the shoulder to cry on when I get overwhelmed, the lens changer, the bag carrier, the other photographer.

I am a mama to 3 kidlets ages 12, 10 and 4, very very busy with life and I love it!!

He is the Daddy to the same 3 kids and just as busy in life

I like steak, I prefer salty stuff over candy and sweets

He likes... hmm I forgot to ask..

I am from Toronto but, will stay in Edmonton I am sure forever!!

He is from Edmonton, born and raised

I am afraid to fly, and I mean afraid... I do it but I am a wreck like you would not believe!!!

He is not afraid of anything.. or so he says

I have a motto is that life is so short that you need to live it to its fullest, I even h ave tattoo's to prove it!

He follows my motto.. refuses to get a tattoo

I love meeting new clients and LOVE my original clients, some have become great friends.

He is too shy and lets me make all the friends, then tags along when I drag him out for a drink or 2 with those cool clients

I am afraid to photograph newborns... No really I am, they scare the pants off me... but only in the photography aspect as most of you know I am a maternity nurse so obviously I work around newborns all the time.

He never comes to the newborn shoots, but probably would do great.

I love vineyards and would frequent everyone in canada if I could... If you know of any good ones let me know.

He is an 1873 fan, but they discontinued it, if you find any let us know that too

There are sooo many more pictures but I didn't want to post them all, lol gotta save room for my other sessions.

It was hard to capture all his expressions because they changed so darn quickly, lol I am not the baby photographer in Tonikka J.. that gift belongs to KL bezooyen, as she is my assistant and does 99% of all our newborns... but this time I thought why the heck not, I am only catching faces right??

Check out these shoes below... aren't they awesome?? They cost a bundle and his mama just informed me that because I showed her a new company that creates equally as nice shoes.. she ordered more... UH OHHHH ...shall I say shoe fetish??

I just couldn't help it... it was either gobble those yummy cheeks or photograph his shoes...lol shoes it was...

He gave me this look because he caught a mad case of the hiccups... poor boy

He looked so determined, lol those darn hiccups lasted 1/2 hour.. crazy huh?? you should hear him burp... OMG man burps!!! HEE HEE

Photography Sessions {Edmonton Artistic Photographer}

I really love when my clients want advice on what to wear to a family photography session. My advice is always the same, Don't match BUT chose a color scheme. By color scheme, I don’t mean matching every article of clothing. In fact, I highly discourage that! Say you want to choose the color Red. Then the mother wear a shade of red, The father could wear a navy blue top to keep it a bit more masculine and the child should wear a top that incorporates similar blues and reds, stripes perhaps? Thats just an example of many outfit types, I say be comfortable and wear what you would wear normally, if you don't normally wear a suit then a fancy dancy suit wouldn't be suitable to you... I say this because I capture with alot of photo journalistic opportunities.... example you and junior playing in the leaves... can you imagine doing that in a suit??? Kids also look good in bright fun colours, plus it sure can pop your picture.

STRESS OF BEING A MOM

My youngest child is 3 years old and FULL of energy, if anyone knows me personally they know how she is...lol Its sooo funny but so draining.

Little miss monkey (thats what I call her) is pretty smart, and I am not saying that because I am biased but its true, thanks to her siblings who are 12 and 10 yrs old, I think she feels she needs to keep up with them and thats why she is years beyond her 3 years.

She has had an odd first 3 years medically, 3 times her Lungs have collapsed and its still un diagnosed as to why it keeps happening, but its been over 9 months since her last lung flare up.

However today I noticed she was feeling out of sorts and immediately thought bladder infection, she showed some signs and symptoms (I am a nurse, forgive me if i break into nurse speak) But then by dinner all went away, we actually put her to bed late at 9 pm and she kept getting up to go pee.. I looked at my husband and said, I bet its an infection, literally within 10 minutes it all went haywire..

We rushed her over to the medicenter near our house and they did a urine test, I have seen some nasty urine but was un prepared for little miss monkey's urine, the doctor said "Its the worst bladder/UTI infection I have EVER seen," maybe she felt she could be frank with me because I work with her in obstetrics at the hospital??

They are worried it will go into her kidneys so they put her on 2 different powerful antibiotics and we have to watch her for 24 hours, meaning she has to sleep in my room etc....

I wont be doing too much blogging this week as I had a mini Surgery that I need to heal from, in that time I will be adding pictures to my website HERE since I really don't Have any there since I closed my old site... which you can view also from the website under 2009 clients.

It Sucks To Be In The Hospital!!!!!

I am very excited to blog this next session.... Meet Darren, been in the Hospital FOREVER!!!! This latest stay is just one of many over the years

Thank goodness for laptops otherwise I am sure he would have gone crazy, This latest hospital stay has been since january 7th 2010 and FULL of craziness

Darren had a fake knee and caught an infection and spent most of last year in the hospital fighting a loosing battle....so this time they decided to just take out the metal knee and see if they can heal it thata way, they replaced the knee with a ball of cement, trust me its eewwwwy when he moves it, the leg makes a clunking sound. Even made my husband almost faint!!!!

Im pretty sure he just got his Morphine shot here, just look at that smile creeping on his face...lol. The infection cleared up!!!! YAY!!! or not so yay, now that the infection was gone someone decided that it would be a good idea to take part of Darrens calf and stick it in the hole in the knee... Ladies if you wanna pull his leg or tickle his calf ya better do it at the knee cap area cuz thats where he now feels his calf...lol its funny!!

Ya I was right, Morphine kicked in. In 5 min he was asleep, but then 5 min after that he was wide awake asking "hey when did you get here????" lol 2 hours ago mr Morphine

The one good thing about his hospital stay is that he was in a semi private room which means roommates, in Darrens case thats a good thing otherwise it gets very lonely. His roommates ranged from 30yrs old to 80 yrs old, to funny and nice to grumpy and angry.

This was a shot that was taken as he was getting quite queasy (thats morphine for you) so we ended the session shortly there after, he was a trooper though let me tell you.

Meet Jeff, Jeff is 29 and a good looking dude.... Ok I am Biased cuz I know him really well, lol,

He is a pretty shy dude and I really had to twist his arm to do this photoshoot "Im not model material yadda yadda yadda" He caved obviously. I dont think you need to be "model " material to have a good picture, He really liked the urban grunge look (if your wondering why the pics are all "dirty" ) And I think he looks great, refused to smile.. but I did catch a few, even if I had to throw a few snowballs at him... yup I did!!!

Jeff is lucky enough (well lucky for me) to live on a working farm, a Buffalo farm... lucky for me because I borrow his barn, broken down cars and cool fences to do some of my photography, maybe not so lucky for him because he has to do some pretty grimy stuff on that farm.... ugh!!!

It was a pretty muddy day when we did this shoot... So I donned my work boots and we trudged thru the mud, and the wind.... oh the wind, it was soooooo WINDY!!! good thing he doesn't have long hair eh??

Grrrrr this blog is making me go insane, I add pictures, they are huge, no matter which way I shrink the pics, they become pixelated.... GOSH I wish I knew how to use a wordpress blog... I am sure it would be much much easier!!!!!! I like Blu and its really easy to navigate my website, I am not very happy with Blu's mini blog, Im thinking I made a mistake... sigh!!!! Isnt she a cutie patootie?? This photograph was taken by my assistant and friend KL... she helps me loads, in weddings, family/group photo's... some beloved newborn photography and most of all she is my friend. How she has time to help me I will never know.. she has 5 kidlets, runs a dayhome and has a brand new clothing line that she will be launching real soon.... keep checking back for details!!

So I specialize in pregnancy/maternity photography and as most of you know branched out into Labour and Delivery Photography, I actually cannot believe how popular that kind of photography is... So I am really not sure what the best way to do this blog is... how bout I ask the viewers.... do you like FULL size pictures? or do you like seeing the smaller pictures?? I kind of like the medium or smaller otherwise I feel you are looking up whomever is in the pictures nose...lol ha ha ha... ok not funny but well I am tired!!! anyway now that I have a new lap top I can sit in the living room with the husband and edit instead of putting it off till I am alone (with 3 kids thats impossible) So finally you will be seeing more fun and interactive blog posts... YAY me!!!! now to go update my facebook and personal blog!!!

I have taken a multitude of college courses and photography programs.
